Kilimanjaro travel guide Kilimanjaro travel guide

Welcome to Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro offers breath-taking views and sights you’ll never forget. Climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the ‘Roof of Africa’, and see the plains of Tanzania in a whole new light. Plus, you can experience incredible natural landscapes and discover Africa’s wonderful wildlife.

Top things to see and do
  • Head to Mount Kilimanjaro and tackle the 5,895 metre climb to her famous Uhuru Peak – the highest point in Africa. The easier routes such as Marangu, Machame or Rongai, are suitable for any adventurous and able-bodied person, and the views are truly life changing.
  • Travel to Moshi and you can swim in the soothing warm waters of the Kikuletwa Hotsprings. It’s a beautiful location with crystal-clear waters – and the perfect way to recover from a lengthy, mountainous trek.
  • On the south-eastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro lies Lake Chala, a crater lake set against a stunning volcanic backdrop. The dramatic creation of the area belies its tranquillity and timeless beauty.
  • If you have no intention of making your way to Kilimanjaro’s summit, the Kilimanjaro National Park still offers 1,668 square kilometres of beautiful terrain. Here you’ll find the surrounding montane forest belt and a variety of wildlife, including Cape buffalo, elephants and prowling leopards.

Tip for travellers
Southwest from Mount Kilimanjaro lies Arusha National Park – northern Tanzania’s safari capital. Blue monkeys, flamingos, zebra and waterbuck inhabit a landscape that also includes the spectacular Ngurdoto Crater. If you’re in the area, it’s not to be missed.
